What you need to know
Academic Review Days
There are three formal academic review days in the year where they can meet with personalised tutor to discuss student progress and identify the next steps in their learning.
We also have an options evening for parents of Year 9 and 8 pupils to discuss option choices at GCSE.
We also have Parent Consultation Evenings for year 10 and 11 students where parents can meet subject teachers to discuss progress and next steps to learning.
Regular, informal contact
We maintain high levels of contact with parents to discuss progress and issues of importance about their child's welfare. We encourage parents to contact us by telephone or by email at any time if they have any concerns.
Helping you help your child
We welcome parental contact and involvement and want to support parents so that they are able to play an active role in their child's learning and personal development outside of the home.
All students entering Year 7, and their parents, are asked to sign a Home Academy agreement to express our goal to work towards the aims of the Academy and a successful five years' education. The tutor in return signs the Agreement on behalf of the Academy. We place a strong emphasis on the Agreement, and hope that all families seeking a place at Barnfield South will see it as an important mutual advantage.
Attendance and Punctuality
One matter over which we rely heavily on parental support is attendance and punctuality. If holidays are taken without the Academy's agreement, the absences will be declared 'unauthorised' and parents will be liable to a Fixed Penalty Notice.
We do not tolerate lateness, and students who harm their education by being late are dealt with under our discipline procedures. Parents are fully involved in this, as parents are responsible for ensuring correct attendance.
